International Women’s Day 2024
Having brought IWD breakfasts to Kimba since the business started 3 years ago, Eyre Business is proud to announce a twist on our usual format, hosting former local, wool grower and designer Nikki Atkinson as the 2024 guest speaker – the night before International Women’s Day.
In a response to feedback from previous years about the early morning breakfast being difficult to attend, the 2024 Eyre Business celebration of International Women’s Day will be two-fold.
On Thursday 7th March from 6.30pm, the Eyre Business team are delighted to host an evening at the with former Kimba local, fashion and wedding gown designer – Nikki Atkinson of Horrock’s Vale Collections. Nikki was this month announced as one of the three South Australian finalists for the 2024 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award.
The evening will be hosted by the Eyre Business team at the Kimba Gateway Hotel at 6.30pm, with cocktail nibbles and champagne on arrival.
We’re thrilled to say that Nikki will be bringing one of her stunning wool wedding gowns along to show us as she talks about her passion for wool and sustainable solutions.
The evening is a pre-cursor to our regular livestream of the Adelaide IWD breakfast featuring the popular Annabel Crabb, from 6:45am on Friday 8th March at the Eyre Business Centre, 38 High Street Kimba.
The Adelaide IWD breakfast is the largest event celebrating IWD in Australia and is also the largest annual women’s event in the Adelaide calendar. It was established in Adelaide in 1993 and has tremendous support from the Adelaide community, raising $130,000 in 2023.
Senator the Hon Penny Wong is the host of the event along with emcee ABC identity Sonya Feldhoff, and funds raised are donated to UN Women Australia. Evening Tickets ($45) include a glass of champagne on arrival, cocktail nibbles and a chance to listen to guest speaker, Nikki Atkinson, with a donation going to the cause UN Women Australia. The evening ticket also includes breakfast and the live stream on Friday morning. Tickets may be purchased through Eventbrite (fee applicable) or directly from Eyre Business.

Nikki’s family grow fine Merino wool on their property, Horrocks Vale a majestic piece of land, southeast of Port Augusta in South Australia’s mid-north.

Nikki is a fashion and bridal designer, and wife of a wool grazier for 19 years. In that time Nikki has become utterly obsessed with the fibre for textile use, is consistently amazed at its unexpected silky soft texture (no… its not heavy or scratchy!) and amazing application qualities.
“If you had told me 10 years ago I’d be designing wedding gowns made out of wool I would have told you you were crazy but I am now so excited to be able to bring my two loves together and create a garment that not only conveys classic beauty but aligns with environmentally friendly movement in the fashion industry.
Paired with laces, beaded fabrics and silks, this collection is one of my favourites to date and I’m incredibly honoured to be able to share it with you” says Nikki.
Annabel Crabb
2024 IWD Adelaide breakfast guest speaker Annabel Crabb, is one of Australia’s most beloved journalists. She is an ABC writer and presenter who has covered Australian politics for 20 years but also is nationally well-known for her insightful and humorous analysis on gender and current affairs.
The creator and presenter of Ms Represented, and of the long running political interview series Kitchen Cabinet, Annabel also wrote and presented the ground-breaking documentary series on life inside Australia’s Parliament House, The House with Annabel Crabb. She hosts ABC’s popular history and food series Back In Time For Dinner and is a regular face on ABC TV’s election night and Budget broadcasts with a long history of appearances on ABC’s Insiders program.
Her published work ranges from The Wife Drought – a 2015 best-seller on women and work – to the cookbooks she co-writes with childhood friend Wendy Sharpe – and she won a Walkley Award for her biographical work “Stop At Nothing: The Life & Adventures of Malcolm Turnbull”.
With friend and colleague Leigh Sales, Annabel hosts the top-rating podcast Chat 10 Looks 3 and they’ve co-written their first book together, Well Hello.
