Thursday 6th March
Join us for an evening of wonderful conversations and inspiration with guest speakers Shane Rowe from Almerta Station, and local Cecilia Woolford. The evening will be hosted by the Eyre Business team at the Kimba Gateway Hotel at 6pm, with nibbles and champagne on arrival.

About our speakers:

Shane Rowe, and her husband Paddy, own Almerta Station, a multi-generation grazing property in the Flinders Ranges, SA.

In 2025, Almerta Station will celebrate 15 years in tourism, welcoming guests to experience its stunning landscapes, rich history, and outback hospitality on their working station.

In September 2010, the family made the decision to branch into tourism to diversify their income, in addition to running 4000-8000 sheep and their off property work. This led to a journey of creating individual campsites across the property and renovating the Shearing Quarters and an original cottage.

Combining sustainable sheep farming with tourism, they offer off-grid luxury at Henders House, shearers quarters accommodation and secluded bush campsites, providing guests with privacy, comfort, and an authentic outback experience.

Shane is the Chairperson of Station Stays SA and a Flinders Ranges & Outback Tourism Board representative. She is passionate about agritourism, community advocacy, and supporting regional businesses.

Cecilia Woolford – Madagascar, a journey of discovery and learning…

From competing in six Sydney-Hobart’s, Kimba’s Cecilia Woolford has always had a passion for sailing.

It was a long-held dream to create a research project that came true last year, as an exciting adventure. Cecilia, together with photographer Tom Polacheck (winner of the 2023 Kimba Art Prize – Photography) and others, boarded the Nofy-Be, a traditionally built Madagascan schooner, and set off sailing through the Mozambique Channel.

The crew sailed on the ‘pirate’ ship for four weeks, researching the traditional sailing (fishing) fleet sustainability and the cultural anthropology of the region.

Come and hear about this amazing adventure and see some of the video footage taken on the voyage.

You can also follow the research mission on Facebook The Traditional Sailing Fleet of Madagascar https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567756090008&mibextid=ZbWKwL
